Born in Redditch, Worcestershire, England, Bonham’s musical journey began at the tender age of five. He constructed his first drum kit from containers, and by ten, he had received a snare drum which set him on his path. By the age of fifteen, he was gifted a full drum kit, a Premier Percussion set, igniting his passion for music.

Bonham joined multiple local bands during his school years, gaining invaluable experience. Among his notable early bands were the Blue Star Trio and Gerry Levene & the Avengers. His big break came when he joined the blues group Crawling King Snakes, where he played alongside Robert Plant, later leading to his role in Led Zeppelin.

In 1968, following the dissolution of the Yardbirds, Bonham was invited by guitarist Jimmy Page to join Plant and bassist John Paul Jones to form Led Zeppelin. Together, they defined a new era of hard rock, with Bonham’s powerful drumming providing a solid backbone to the band’s iconic sound.
